No beating to law violators: IGP

Inspector General of Police (IGP) A K M Shahidul Haque said, cops have no right to beat people after detaining them who violate laws.

He said, police can take the violators to police station and releases them in presence of their relatives if accused men are innocent.

The Police Chief said this in a press briefing at Police Headquarters on the occasion of Police Week-2016 on Sunday.

IGP said, a faction of the citizens does not follow the laws. If they commit acute crimes, they would be brought to law and justice. But police do not reserve power to beat them.

He said, judicial action have been taken against 709 police members due to different causes in last five years.
