SC for removing private structure from Lalbagh Kella

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) today ordered to remove within three months a private house built inside the boundary of Lalbagh Kella.

The court also asked the authorities concerned to give Taka 40 lakh to the owner of the house as compensation.

Appellate Division full bench headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order after holding hearing on a writ petition filed by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB). Advocate Manjil Morshed moved the plea for HRPB, while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam stood for the state.

"HRPB filed the writ in 2011, pleading to remove illegal structures built inside the boundary of 17th century Mughal fort. Accepting the plea, the High Court had ordered to remove all the illegal structures built inside the boundary. Following review plea on the matter, the apex court in April, 2017, sought a list of illegal structures inside the fort," Morshed said.

"A three-member specialized committee on May 25 submitted its report, identifying this house owned by one Abul Hashem as an illegal structure. So the apex court today ordered to removing it," he added.
