30 houses gutted in Rangamati

At least 30 houses were gutted by a fire in Rangamati early on Friday.

The incident ensued at Kachalong Bazar in Baghaichhari upazila in the district.

Local people said the fire broke out at a house in the dead of night and soon engulfed the adjoining 29 other houses.

Upon there being no fire station in the upazila, local people themselves extinguished the blaze after two hours of frantic efforts.

The cause of the fire could not be ascertained.

The affected house residents are living under the open sky after the incident.

The fire burnt valuables worth Tk50 lakh, said the affected house owners.
