Important roads in the city will be made hawker-free: Anisul

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Anisul Huq on Wednesday announced that all the important roads in the city will be made hawker-free by April.

Mayor said this while addressing as the chief guest at a function of presenting result on three researches at a private-run Bangladesh University (BU) Urban Laboratory auditorium in Dhaka.

He said, the footpath of the important streets in the city will be hawker-free. We will rehabilitate the hawkers in a well-organized way if it is essential.

The mayor said the government is taking different steps including finding out terminal place for all buses and tracks.

There are other plans of the authorities to run state run 3,000 buses and merge 190 private transport companies into five companies after discussion with the owners to make the city traffic disciplined.

He also said the government will set up hoarding boards behind the passenger-shade to check indiscriminate fixing of posters in the city.
