Sayedee has to be in jail until death

The Supreme Court has upheld its earlier order that granted imprisonment until death to Jamaat-e-Islami leader and war criminal Delawar Hossain Sayedee for his crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.

A five-member bench led by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha gave the verdict on Monday.

The bench dismissed both the pleas filed by the state and defence.

Earlier on February 28, 2013, the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 sentenced Sayedee to death penalty for his crimes against humanity during Bangladesh’s liberation war in 1971.

On September 17, 2014, Sayedee’s death was commuted to imprisonment until death after the war criminal moved an appeal with the Supreme Court.
