GDP growth to reach 7.24pc, per capita income $1,602
Country’s economic growth will reach a record 7.24 percent in the current fiscal year 2016-17 (FY17), according to Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
The per capita income will rise to US$ 1,602 by the end of the current fiscal year, which was US$1,465 in FY16, said the BBS which came up with the estimates based on information from the first ten months of 2016-17 (July-April).
While briefing journalists at the NEC conference room here today Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal Kamal attributed the growth to the encouraging exports and robust agricultural outputs to the record high growth.
Kamal also revealed the information at the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting held today with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
"It has been achieved through our combined efforts. Continuity of government has worked behind this achievement," he quoted the Prime Minister as saying.
The budget unveiled in June 2016 set a growth target of 7.2 percent for FY 2016-17.
