Rajshahi raid: 5 ‘militants’ killed in ‘suicide blasts’

Five suspected militants including a woman were killed in suicide explosion at a house of Benipur village under Godagari upazila in Rajshahi on Thursday morning.

Identities of them could not be known immediately.

A fire brigade official named Abdul Matin injured during the operation and died at Rajshahi Mecial College and Hospital.

Apart from Sub Inspector Utpol and Police Constable Tazul were also injured in the incident.

Godagari police station Officer-in-Charge Hibzur Alam Munshi says: “Law enforcers cordoned off a house in Benipur area since the early hours of the day.”

A team of firefighters used water cannon to diffuse possible bombs inside the den around 7:50am. Around 8am, six “militants” including three women came out of the house wearing suicide vests and reportedly stabbed a fire service official, triggering a gunfight with the law enforcers, he said.

At one stage, the “militants” exploded suicide vests, leaving five of them including a woman dead on the spot, the OC added.
