SC extends stay on Moudud`s graft case proceedings

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) on Sunday extended for one more week the stay on proceedings of Niko graft case against BNP leader and former minister Barrister Moudud Ahmed.

A four-member apex court bench, headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, passed the order after holding hearing on the matter.

Barrister Moudud moved his case before the court by himself while advocate Khurshid Alam Khan stood for complainant Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

"The matter will come on the apex court cause list for hearing on next Sunday again," Khan told newsmen.

Earlier on April 13, the Chamber Judge court of the Appellate Division had stayed the proceedings in the case against Moudud till today.

The ACC filed the case on December 9, 2007, against 11 persons including BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and Moudud Ahmed, accusing them of incurring a loss of Taka 137 billion to the state exchequer by penning a deal with Canadian company Niko for exploring and extracting gas.
