Masterminds behind Hefajat’s rampage identified: DMP
The masterminds behind the 2013 Hefajat’s rampage in Dhaka have been identified, says Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner Monirul Islam.
The top official of police said this while addressing the journalists at DMP media centre on Tuesday.
He said, “It was not possible to identify all those who had done terrorist activities from the field level”.
On May 5, 2013, the Hefajat men locked in deadly clashes with law enforcers and the ruling Awami League men and turned the capital city into a battlefield.
They set fire to hundreds of shops, vehicles and police outposts and looted shops, including those having Islamic books.
More than 40 cases were filed over the rampage on that day. But apart from a few, investigation of most of the cases has not seen any headway over the years.
