Maldivian student’s body exhumed for fresh autopsy

The body of a Maldivian student has been exhumed twenty seven days after she was found dead for a second autopsy here today.

Raudha Athif was found hanging in her room at the hostel of the Rajshahi Islami Bank Medical College on March 29. She was a second-year student studying for her MBBS degree.

In presence of Executive Magistrate Raktim Chowdhury, a team of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) exhumed the body from Hatemkhan Graveyard here this morning.

Raudha’s father Mohamed Athif and hostel superintendent Mahmuda Begum, who were also present at the scene, confirmed the body to be Raudha’s, said Asmaul Haque, Inspector of CID and also the investigation officer of the case.

Afterwards, the body was taken to the morgue of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

Associate Professor Amirul Chowdhury of Forensic Department of Shaheed M Monsur Ali Medical College in Sirajganj will lead the newly formed three-member medical board for the autopsy to be held at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue.

Other members of the committee are associate professors Mahbub Hafiz and Hafizur Rahman.

Earlier on March 30, an autopsy conducted at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital ruled her death a suicide.

Raudha’s father, Dr Mohammad Athif, however, filed a murder case over the death on April 10, claiming his daughter had been suffocated.
