Fourth anniversary of Rana Plaza collapse today
Rana Plaza building collapse killed over 1100 garment workers and left 2000 injured on April 24, 2013.
The fourth anniversary has seen NGOs and investors are still demanding the ‘just compensation’ for the Rana Plaza victims.
Many families of the Rana Plaza victims who were killed during the tragedy are yet to get any compensation from the authorities concerned even after the four years due to identification crisis.
Two separate Dhaka courts framed charges against 42 accused including building owner Sohel Rana in two cases, but the courts are yet to start recording statements of witnesses in the cases.
The murder case filed for the deaths of workers is pending with Dhaka District and Sessions Judges Court due to various complications.
The court fixed May 8 for next hearing in Rana Plaza building corruption case over the tragedy.
However, the 4th anniversary of Rana Plaza collapse, the worst-ever tragedy in the country`s multi-billion dollar ready-made garment (RMG) industry will be observed today.
Different rights bodies, workers organisations and left political parties will chalk out various programmes, including discussion, rally and human chain, to mark the day recalling the tragedy.
