PM mourns death of Lt Gen Jacob
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday expressed deep shock at the death of former Indian general JFR Jacob, who played the crucial role in forcing the Pakistani surrender on December 16, 1971.
"We`ve lost a valiant soldier of our Great War of Liberation. The nation with profound respect would remember the contributions of Jacob to the War of Liberation forever," she said in a statement.
Sheikh Hasina prayed for salvation of the departed soul and conveyed her deep sympathy to the family members of the bereaved family.
Lt Gen Jacob, who negotiated the surrender of the Pakistani troops in Dhaka following the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971, died after a prolonged illness in New Delhi this morning at the age of 92.
