HC gives bail to MP Rana

The High Court (HC) today granted bail to Tangail-3 lawmaker Amanur Rahman Khan Rana in the Freedom Fighter Faruk Ahmed murder case.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice Md Miftah Uddin Choudhury and Justice ANM Bashir Ullah passed the order, issuing a rule asking the state to explain as to why it shall not grant the lawmaker permanent bail in the case.

Senior advocate Abdul Baset Mazumder moved Rana`s bail plea at the court, while deputy attorney general Sheikh AKM Moniruzzaman stood for the state.

Earlier on March 30, the High Court had dismissed a rule issued on the same matter. Later the controversial lawmaker filed a fresh plea.

Rana was sent to jail by a trial court as he surrendered before it on September 18, 2016. A Tangail court on September 26 rejected his bail plea.
