HC orders Tarique’s wife to surrender in graft case

The High Court (HC) today ordered BNP vice-chairman Tarique Rahman’s wife Dr Zubaida Rahman to surrender before concerned trial court within eight weeks in a graft case.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Krishna Debnath passed the order after disposing of a rule issued in this regard.

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on September 26, 2007, filed the case against Tarique, Zubaida and her mother Syeda Iqbal Mand Banu for concealing information about wealth worth of Taka 4.81 crore.

The anti-graft body on March 31, 2008, submitted charge sheet in the case. But the HC on April 8, 2008, accepting a plea of Zubaida, stayed the proceedings of the case for two months and issued the rule.
