High Court for issuing summons against Tarique

The High Court on Tuesday asked its relevant department to issue a summons against BNP leader Tarique Rahman in a case filed for money-laundering.

A High Court division bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Amir Hossain passed the order and set February 14 to pass further order on the matter.

"The court has asked the department concerned to issue a summons against Tarique Rahman and publish advertisements in this regard in one national Bengali daily and one English national daily," said Khurshid Alam Khan, counsel for complainant Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Earlier on November 17, 2013, a Dhaka court acquitted Tarique of charges brought against him for allegedly laundering Taka 20.41 crore. But the same court sentenced his friend and business associate Giasuddin-Al-Mamun to seven years in prison and also fined him Taka 40 crore.

The ACC on December 5, 2013, lodged an appeal before the High Court against the verdict that acquitted Tarique. The High Court on January 19, 2014, accepted the appeal for hearing and asked Tarique to surrender before the trial court.
