Review pleas over Sayedee war crimes trial on SC cause list
The Supreme Court included the review petitions of convicted war criminal and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee and the government against its verdict in the war crimes case.
A total of 223 matters have been included on Monday’s cause list for the appeals bench led by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha and the review pleas in the war criminal’s trial appear on 147 in it.
The Jamaat leader was given the death penalty on two counts of crimes against humanity in 2013 by the war crimes tribunal.
He appealed against the death sentence in the Supreme Court and it was commuted to death until prison.
On January 12 last year, the government filed a review petition with the SC, seeking death penalty for Sayedee for his war crimes during the Liberation War.
On January 17 last year, Sayedee filed a plea seeking review of SC verdict. In the petition he sought acquittal in all the charges in which found guilty by the SC.
