Blogger Rajib murder: Death for two upheld

The High Court upheld a lower court verdict that had sentenced two convicts to death for the killing of blogger Ahmed Rajib Haider.

The HC bench of Justice Jahangir Hossain and Justice Md Jahangir Hossain passed the order on Sunday.

The death row convicts are: Redwanul Azad Rana, an expelled student of North South University, Faisal Bin Nayem alias Dweep. Rana is absconding.

Blogger Rajib, who was an activist of Shahbagh movement and used to write against Jamaat-Shibir and war criminals on different blogs under the pseudonym Thaba Baba, was hacked to death near his Mirpur house in the capital on February 15, 2013.

On December 31, 2015, a special tribunal handed the death penalty to Faisal Bin Nayem alias Dweep and former Shibir leader Redwanul Azad Rana for masterminding the murder of blogger Rajib. They were also fined Tk10,000 each.
