6,064 SIMs, VoIP equipments seized in Ctg, held 3

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a joint drive at the midnight today recovered 6,064 SIM cards of different operators and equipments used for illegal Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) at Taherabad residential area in Panchlaish Thana of Chittagong.

In the drive, BTRC and RAB recovered 2,998 SIMs of Teletalk, 1,414 SIMs of Grameenphone, 782 SIMs of Robi, 570 SIMs of Airtel and 320 SIMs of Banglalink, said a BTRC press release today.

They also seized a total of 10 GSMA SIM Box gateways including 256 SIM port, 64 SIM port, 32 SIM port, three 3G modems, 4 routers, 5 laptops and 78 GSM outdoor antennas worth around Taka 40 lakh which are being used for illegal VoIP.

Three people have also been arrested in this connection.

A case was filed under Bangladesh Telecommunication Act-2001 with Panchlaish Police Station.
