Sheikh Hasina now world leader: home minister
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan yesterday said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is now being appreciated globally for her outstanding performance in leading Bangladesh towards development.
The leadership of Sheikh Hasina has been recognized internationally as she is working relentlessly for turning Bangladesh into a develop country by 2041," he said while taking part in the general discussion on thanksgiving motion of President Md. Abdul Hamid`s address to the Jatiya Sangsad.
The minister thanked the President for delivering a time befitting and visionary speech in the Jatiya Sangsad depicting the government`s success stories in different sectors and its continued efforts for building a happy, prosperous and peaceful Bangladesh.
"The world leaders are highly appreciating the way Bangladesh is marching towards socio-economic progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina by keeping democratic trend on," Khan said.
He said the law enforcement agencies have been working closely to arrest and crush militants, terrorists and their networks for establishing a peaceful Bangladesh.
The home minister said the government has undertaken various measures to ensure security of the common people and the law enforcement agencies have brought terrorism and other militant activities under control.
Describing cyber crime as a global issue, Asaduzzaman said the government has established a cyber crime and investigation cell at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for preventing and brining cyber crimes under control.
Khan said the law enforcement agencies have arrested over 9,500 criminals, terrorists and militants in 2016 and recovered huge arms, ammunition, explosive, bombs and other equipment used for committing crimes.
He said the government has formed anti-drug committees at 24,300 educational institutions across the country till December 2016 as part of the anti-drug campaign, adding, "Narcotic Control Department filed 9,352 cases and produced 10,031 criminals before courts in 2016 to contain the supply channels of banned drugs."
The home minister said the government has been undertaking initiatives to provide e-passports for further ensuring security of the Bangladesh passports in the world.
Taking part in the discussion, Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is leading the country by defeating 19 attempts on her life.
"By losing mother, father and brothers along with close relatives she (Sheikh Hasina) came to the country in 1981 for leading the nation. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is the greatest hero of our independence while Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is the greatest hero of Bangla`s freedom of struggle," he said.
Referring to the prime minister`s magnanimity, Nasim said being the daughter of Bangabandhu Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina included other party members in her cabinet and she also wanted to induct the BNP also in the government of consensus for country`s welfare.
Coming down heavily on the BNP, the minister said the party (BNP) wants to grab state power through conspiracy, as it does not believe in people`s socio-economic empowerment.
State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Mashiur Rahman Ranga, Whip Mahbub Ara Begum Gini, treasury bench members Chhobi Biswas, Golam Mostafa Biswas, Jebun Nessa Afroz, Golam Dastagir Gazi, independent member Abdul Matin and opposition bench member Mostafa Lutfullah also spoke on the occasion.
