Khadiza is a miracle: Court

Terming her as a brave woman, Districts and Sessions Judge of Sylhet Akbar Hossen Mridha on Wednesday said that Khadiza is the role model for all women.

In his observation while delivering the verdict, the judge made the remark.

The court sentenced attacker Badrul Alam to life term imprisonment in an attempt to murder case.

The court also fined him 5,000 taka, in default to serve two more months in prison.

"Women are playing an important role for developing the society. It is the duty of government, law enforcers to ensure their rights. All the people must show respect to them", the court said.

The observation also said: Women are in top position (Prime Minister, Speaker, opposition leader of the parliament, minister, judges) in the country. Their leadership is contributing for the development of the country.

Referring to women`s success in Bangladesh, the court said that women workers (readymade garments) are also playing a vital role in the economic sector. They are the driving force of the country. So, there is no scope to ignore them. People of all walks of life must come forward to ensure women empowerment.

However, the verdict was delivered within five months and five days of filing the case. Badrul, the main accused of the case, was present at the court during the pronouncement of the verdict.

Khadiza Begum Nargis was brutally hacked by Badrul Alam, former BCL leader of SUST, at MC college campus in Sylhet on October last.
