Khadiza murder attempt: Badrul gets life imprisonment
A Sylhet court sentenced a former Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader Badrul Alam to life imprisonment in a case filed over the attack on college student Khadiza Akter Nargis.
Metropolitan Sessions Judge Akbar Hossain Mridha passed the order around 12pm on Wednesday.
The court also fined him Tk 5,000 and he will have to suffer two months more imprisonment in default to pay the fine.
Khadiza, 23, a student of Sylhet MC College and daughter of Masuk Miah of Hausa village in Sadar upazila, was stabbed by Badrul Alam on October 3 last year on her way back home from the college following the refusal of his proposal for having an affair with him.
Badrul confessed to hacking Khadiza in his statement made under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPc) on October 5 last year.
On November 15, 2016, the district’s additional chief metropolitan magistrate accepted the charge sheet that police pressed accusing Badrul on November 8.
After more than three months of treatment and intensive care, Khadiza returned home from the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP), Savar on February 24.
