Malaysian 2 cops to hang for killing Bangladeshi

The Malaysian High Court sentenced two Immigration Department officers to death for the murder of a Bangladeshi man in October 2014.

Judicial Commissioner Abu Bakar Katar on Friday passed sentence on Mohd Aminuddin Mohd Yasin and Zuhairul Effendey Zulkafli, both 35, after finding them guilty.

The men beat up illegal immigrant Abu Bakar Siddiqe, 45, in the pantry of the Immigration office at the Home Ministry complex of the country on Oct 29, 2014 and he died several days later.

In his judgment, Abu Bakar said all evidence by the defence was mere denial.

According to the facts of the case, the victim had complained of gastric pain and asked for medicine. He was brought out of the lockup to the pantry by Mohd Aminuddin and Zuhairul Effendey. CCTV footage showed that the Immigration officers were holding long wooden sticks.

When he returned to the lockup, the victim told his cellmate that he had been beaten and showed him the bruises.

There were no signs of injury on the victim when he was taken to the pantry.

His condition worsened and he was brought to hospital but died on Nov 4, 2014.
