BGB recovers smuggled goods worth TK 786.72 crore last year

Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) in its countrywide drive last year recovered smuggled goods and contraband items worth Taka 786.72 crore, said a press release on Sunday evening.

According to BSS reports, BGB also detained 2216 people for their alleged involvement in drug smuggling and 1492 others for illegal crossing of Bangladesh territory.

The smuggled goods and contraband items included: 5056,410 pieces of yaba tablets, 4,79,536 bottles of phensidyl, 10 kg of heroin, 10,196 kg of cannabis, 3,09,776 bottles of foreign wines, 6,92,887 pieces of sex-stimulating tablets, 1,54,21 pieces of sharees, 22.33 kg gold and 33 touch stones.

The para-military border watchdog also seized 67 pistols, 40 guns, 54 bombs, 4,043 bullets and 44.9 kg gun powder, the release added.
