Govt. seals off 37 fake pharmaceutical companies: Nasim
The government has realised Taka 6,66,27,700 as fine and filed 2,169 cases for producing and selling of substandard, fake and adulterated medicines in the country through conducting mobile courts across the country from January 2016 to December 2016.
"The mobile courts have awarded imprisonment to 58 offenders in different terms and sealed off 37 establishments," Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim said today while replying to a tabled question from treasury bench member M Abdul Latif of Chittagong-11 in the Jatiya Sangsad.
He informed the House that some 41 cases were filed with drug tribunals and 64 cases with magistrate courts for producing and selling of substandard, fake and adulterated medicines during the same period.
Nasim said the government has also seized and destroyed substandard, fake and adulterated medicines worth Taka 17 crore.
He said some 30 standard pharmaceutical companies fulfill 90 percent demand for medicines in the country, while 10 percent demand for medicines is met by small and medium pharmaceutical companies and importing.
