NSU students clash with police

North South University students clashed with police as they demonstrated blocking the Pragati Sarani on Thursday protesting an alleged assault on a student of the university.

Several students were injured in the clash but the exact number of the injured students was not verified.

In the moring the students took to the streets, which triggered traffic congestion in the area.

A BBA student of the university Shariar Hasnat Tapu was assaulted by security guards of Bashundhara Group on Wednesday night. He is undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital after being transferred from Apollo Hospital.

A student Labib Khan said Tapu and his friend locked in altercation with security guards over parking a motor cycle at Apollo gate of Pragati Sarani on Wednesday night. On a stage of the altercation, the guards beat them.

Being informed the assault 10-15 more students went to the spot and they were also assaulted by over a dozen guards, Labib continued.

Police said the students demonstrated till midnight on Wednesday. They retook to the streets on Thursday morning demanding punishment of the offenders.

However, Bhatara Thana Officers-in-Charge (OC) Nurul Mottakin said, “The police is trying to take the situation under control.”
