On day two of transport strike, commuters continue to suffer

Dhaka city commuters suffered badly as the transport strike has entered its second day on Wednesday.

Hundreds of commuters, particularly office-goers and students, suffered a lot in the morning for inadequate public transport.

The workers under the banner of Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation went on the strike on Tuesday morning protesting the life term imprisonment for a truck driver convicting him of killing filmmaker Tareque Masud and journalist Mishuk Munier in a road accident.

Meanwhile, A Dhaka court on Monday sentenced a trucker to death in a case filed over a road accident in Savar in 2003.

After which, the transport workers took their protests countrywide from yesterday.

In the capital, no inter-district bus left from Gabtoli, Mohakhali or Sayedabad bus terminals.

However, taking the advantage of crisis, some rickshaws and CNG-run auto-rickshaw drivers are demanding eye-brow raising fare.

Khandaker Enayet Ullah, secretary general of Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation, said they will continue the strike until the government takes any step to ensure ‘justice’ to their fellowmen.
