PM to open eight new power plants today
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to open today eight power plants alongside new transmission and distribution lines to produce 1,375 MW power and reach electricity to rugged areas of the country.
Power Development Board (PDB) officials said the premier was expected to inaugurate the systems under 21 projects through video conference at her office in the capital.
“The projects included eight newly built power generation plants, a newly built substation and a transmission line . . . these will ensure cent percent electrification of 10 upazilas and reach power to a rugged upazila in Bandarban,” a PDB spokesman said.
PDB’s public relations director Saiful Islam Chowdhury said the 10 upazilas having completed electrification are Keraniganj and Savar of Dhaka, Tungipara of Munshiganj, Kotalipara of Gopalganj, Bhuapur of Tangail, Karnaphuli of Chittagong, Daganbhuiyan of Feni, Kuliarchar of Kishoreganj, Mujibnagar of Meherpur and Syedpur of Rangpur. Thanchi of Bandarban would be the first upazila where power would reach.
According to the PDB official the eight newly built power plant projects are Shahjibazar 330 MW combined cycle plant of PDB, Khulna 225 MW converted combined cycle plant of NWPGC, Ashuganj 450 MW combined cycle plant of ASPSCL, Manikganj 55 MW liquid fuel plant of Dhaka Northern Power General Ltd, Nababganj 55 MW liquid fuel plant of Dhaka Southern Power Generation Ltd, Jamalpur 95 MW dual-fuel plant of Power Pac, Barisal 110 MW dual-fuel plant of Summit Group and Madanganj 55 MW liquid fuel plant of Summit Group, the PDB director added.
