Accreditation council act underway to ensure quality education
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said here on Sunday the formulation process of accreditation council act is underway to supplement the endeavors of the government to ensure quality education.
"We are working on formulating an accreditation council act for both public and private universities aiming to improve standard of education," he told a seminar in the auditorium of International Mother Language Institute (IMLI).
The seminar was held as part of finalization process of accreditation council act under Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) of University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh.
Education Secretary Md Sohrab Hossain, Economist Dr Mohammad Forasuddin, former advisor of the caretaker government Prof Jamilur Reza Chowdhury and former vice-chancellor of Dhaka University Dr Emajuddin Ahmed, among others, addressed the seminar with UGC Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan in the chair.
Nahid said, "It will be very crucial law for higher education sector.... I hope this law will significantly contribute to improve quality education in higher education."
Bangladesh has made considerable progress in enhancing enrolment of education but it is lagging behind increasing quality of education, he added.
"Massive efforts are on to provide quality education for our younger generation," he added.
