Countrywide transport strike triggers untold suffering to people

Daily activities of the people were halted in Dhaka and all over the country on Tuesday as Bangladesh Road Transport workers federation observed countrywide strike protesting the penalties to two transport workers.

Buses, auto-rickshaws were not plying on the roads, affected normal life in the capital. Students and office-goers were forced to wait on the roads.

People were seen waiting for vehicles in Farmgate, Mirpur, Gulshan, Gulistan, Uttara.

Thousands of passengers were fallen in awkward situation at Gabtoli bus terminal, one of the entry points to the capital as they didn’t get any vehicles.

On February 22, a Manikganj court awarded life term imprisonment for a truck driver convicting him of killing filmmaker Tareque Masud and journalist Mishuk Munier in a road accident.

A Dhaka court on Monday sentenced a trucker to death in a case filed over a road accident in Savar in 2003.

After which, the transport workers took their protests countrywide.
