HC stays gas price hike for 6-month
The High Court (HC) on Tuesday stayed 6-month to effective the second phase gas price hike from June 1.
A HC bench comprising Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice JBM Hassan passed the order during the primary hearing of a writ.
The court also questioned the legality of the government decision to increase the gas price in two phases.
Earlier on Monday, Engineer Mubashir Husain filed the writ petition on behalf of The Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB).
On February 23, the BERC announced that the tariff for single burner will be Tk 750 while double burner will be sold at Tk 800 in first phase from March 1.
The second phase will be implemented from June 1. From then, the customer will have to pay Tk 900 for single burner and Tk 950 for double.
