Kunio murder: Five get death sentence

A Rangpur court handed down death penalty to five people in the case filed over the murder of a Japanese national Kunio Hushi.

Judge Noresh Chandra Sarkar of Rangpur Special Sessions Judge’s Court passed the order on Tuesday.

The convicts are are Masud Rana alias Mamun alias Montri, 21, Isahak Ali, 25, of Poshua Tangailpara village under Pirgachha upazila, Liton Mia, 23, alias Rafiq of Gabtoli area under Bogra sadar upazila, Shakhawat Hossain, 32, of Haldiachar in Gaibandha’s Saghata upazila and Ansari.

Two others accused were acquitted in the case as allegations brought against them were not proved.

It is mentionable that, on October 3, 2015, three assailants shot Kunio Hoshi to death on Mahiganj-Haraganj highway at Kachu Alutari village of Kawnia upazila of the district.
