HC grants bail to 3 languishing in jail without trial

The High Court (HC) on Monday granted bail to three people who were suffering in jail for more than 10 years in separate cases.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice AKM Abdul Hakim and Justice SM Mozibur Rahman granted bail to Asadul alias Acha, Dana Miah and Shaju Miah till the completion of trial of their respective cases.

The HC also ordered the concerned courts to finish the proceedings of their trials within three months, said advocate Chanchal Kumar Biswas.

Advocate Biswas on February 14 drew attention of the court to the plight of eight such people languishing in jails without trial throughout the country. The court later issued a rule on their bail and ordered the jail authorities to produce them before it today.

Police today produced seven out of the eight inmates of prison today.
