Sifat murder: Husband jailed for 10 years
A Dhaka court sentenced a man named Md. Asif Pisle for ten years in a case filed over the killing of his wife Wahida Sifat who was the student of Rajshahi University.
Justice Sayeed Ahmed of Speedy Trial Tribunal-3 in Dhaka passed the order on Monday.
The accused victim’s father-in-law Advocate Mohammad Ramjan, mother-in-law Najmun Nahar and Rajshahi Medical College Hospital’s Forensic Department head Dr Zobaidur Rahman were acquitted in the case.
It is mentionable that, Sifat, who was a student of Journalism and Mass Communication department of RU, was died mysteriously at her in-laws’ house in Mahishbathan area of Rajshahi city on March 29, 2015.
Victim’s uncle Mizanur Rahman filed the case with Rajpara Police Station accusing Sifat’s husband, father-in-law and mother-in-law bringing allegation of torturing and killing Sifat for dowry.
Police later pressed charges against four people including the trio.
