WB hands over another car to CIID

The World Bank (WB) today handed over another car used by its former official to Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID).

On February 15, the customs intelligence sought some documents, including the pass-books of 16 vehicles, from the World Bank (WB) on allegation of misusing the duty-free vehicles. On February 20, the country office of the global lender handed over two cars to DCII.

The WB officials handed over the sedan -- Toyota Allion, 2006, to CIID`s Kakrail office around 5pm on February 22, said CIID director general Moinul Khan today.

“The WB official brought the car and its documents to CIID on February 22. The official also handed over a letter from WB`s country director Qimiao Fan who assures his cooperation in CIID`s investigation,” said Khan.

According to CIID, Nihal Fernando, a senior rural development specialist of WB, used the sedan but Fernando did not surrender it to the customs authorities when he left Bangladesh in December of 2010.

On February 19, the country office of International Labour Organisation (ILO) in Dhaka handed over a sedan, brought in Bangladesh duty-free, to CIID officials.
