Action against Babul Akter if found guilty: Home Minister
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said that action would be taken against former Superintendent of Police (SP) Babul Akter if his involvement was found in the killing of his wife Mahmuda Akter Mitu.
Replying to a question, the minister made the comment after a prize giving ceremony of Tejgaon Ideal School and College on Saturday.
“So far, we’ve not found any credible evidence against Babul Akter to arrest him in connection with the murder of his wife,” said Kamal.
The minister also said, “Action will be taken if we get credible evidence against him.”
Recently, in-laws of Babul Akter’s alleged girlfriend claimed that Babul Akter was involved in the murder.
On June 5 in 2016, three unidentified assailants had stabbed and shot dead Babul Akter’s wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu as she went out to put her son on a school bus at the GEC intersection in Chittagong city.
On June 25, Babul was picked up from his father-in-law’s house in the capital by police and questioned at the DB office for almost 15 hours over his wife’s murder. Some media outlets later published reports claiming Babul himself was involved in the murder of his wife.
Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan and senior police officers, however, told the media that Babul had been taken to the DB office for a ‘discussion’ and ‘information sharing’ over Mitu’s murder.
