Country has 11,101 female police: Home Minister

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan today said some 11,101 female police personnel are working with Bangladesh Police at this moment.

Of the total, some 1,215 female police personnel are under training, he said this, while replying to a tabled question from a treasury bench member Begum Jebunnesa Afroz of Barisha-5 in the Jatiya Sangsad.

Replying to another question from treasury bench member Monowara Begum, Khan said that the approved number of posts in the police is now 1,94,713, adding, "The manpower of police is not enough compared to the country`s population."

The minister said the present government has taken a decision in principal to increase 50,000 manpower in the police for ensuring security of the people and improving law and order.

As part of the decision, some 41,336 new posts have already been created, he informed the House, adding, "Bangladesh Police would be well built as an efficient force further through forming Rangpur Metropolitan Police, Gazipur Metropolitan Police, Police Anti-Terrorism Unit to combat militancy and Guard and Protection Police Unit."
