World leaders appreciate Bangladesh for tremendous success: Matia
Lawmakers today thanked President Md. Abdul Hamid for delivering a time befitting and visionary speech in the Jatiya Sangsad depicting the government`s success stories in different sectors and its continued efforts for building a happy, prosperous and peaceful Bangladesh.
"The world leaders are highly appreciating the way Bangladesh is marching towards socio-economic progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina by keeping democratic trend on," said Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury.
Taking part in the general discussion on thanksgiving motion of the President`s speech delivered in the House on January 22, Matia Chowdhury said the country is now self-sufficient in food production and it has been possible due to sincere efforts of the government and good governance.
She said as a result of good governance and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the country`s GDP growth has reached 7 percent, foreign currency reserved and remittance inflow marked a significant rise at present.
In this connection, Matia Chowdhury said the country`s power production and literacy rate have increased significantly while poverty reduction, child and maternal mortality rates dropped due to various steps of the government.
Coming down heavily on the BNP, the minister said the party (BNP) wants to grab state power through conspiracy, as it does not believe in people`s socio-economic empowerment.
Referring to countrywide arson attacks in 2015, she said the BNP has been terrorizing the country by patronizing different militant groups following instruction of Pakistan in a bid to implement its blue print to put Bangladesh on Pakistani trend.
"The only objective of these terrorist acts was to destabilize the country and destroy democracy by turning Bangladesh into a militant state," she said mentioning the 2004 grenade attacks on Sheikh Hasina.
Matia Chowdhury categorically said the people of the country do not like such suicidal activities of BNP and as a result they took side in favour of Sheikh Hasina to implement the government`s vision to upgrade Bangladesh to a middle income country by 2021 and a developed one by 2041.
"The Awami League government does not believe in words rather it believes in work and as a result the whole world has started giving recognition of its works. In these connections, she mentioned different international recognitions, which Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina achieved for her government`s success in various important sectors.
Lawmakers, Mozammel Huq, Sirajul Islam Mollah, Abdul Wahab, Subid Ali Bhuiyan, Amtul Kibria Keya Chowdhury, Begum Ayesha Ferdous, Salim Uddin Tarafdar and Nazmul Huq Prodhan also spoke on the occasion.
