Three students expelled from CU

The authority of Chittagong University (CU) on Tuesday expelled three students who were detained on Saturday for their alleged involvement with the banned militant outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).

The expelled students were Naimur Rahman Noyon, 25, Faisal Mahmud, 26, and Showkat Rasel, 26. All of them are Masters students of the Physics Department of CU.

Confirming the expulsion, CU proctor Mohammad Ali Asgar Chowdhury said Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury with his executive power annulled the studentship of the trio following a recommendation from the
proctor office.

Earlier, detectives on secret information conducted separate drives in the city and arrested them from different areas.

Later, based on the information provided by the arrested, the DB police raided a rented flat of JMB regional commander at Amanbazar on the city outskirts and recovered an MK-11 semiautomatic sniper rifle, two magazines of the rifle, 5-kg gel explosive, 13 army uniforms, a pair of badges of army major rank, 252 bullets including 186 of the sniper rifle, 25 detonators, bomb-making materials and documents of the outfit.
