3 Ctg JMB men on 5-day remand

A Chittagong court on Monday granted a five-day remand to the detained three suspected members of the banned militant outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) over the recovery of huge arms, bomb-making materials and army uniforms from Amanbazar area under Hathazari upazila of the district early yesterday.

The court of Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Rahmat Ali granted the five-day remand to each after the investigation officer prayed for a 10-day remand in a case filed under Arms Act with city`s Karnaphuli thana, court sources said.

The arrested JMB men were Naimur Rahman Noyon, 25, Faisal Mahmud, 26, and Showkot Rasel, 26. Detectives on secret information conducted separate drives in the city and district from Saturday morning to early Sunday and arrested the three JMB men from different areas.

Later, based on the information provided by the arrested, the DB police raided a rented flat of JMB regional commander at Amanbazar on the city outskirts early yesterday and recovered an MK-11 semiautomatic sniper rifle, two magazines of the rifle, 5kg gel explosive, 13 army uniform, a pair of badges of army major rank, 252 bullets including 186 of sniper rifle, 25 detonators, bomb-making materials and documents of the outfit.
