Kabita Khanam:the first woman election commissioner in Bangladesh

Bangladesh has got its first woman election commissioner with the appointment of Begum Kabita Khanam.

The search committee recommended the names of two women- Begum Kabita Khanam and Dhaka University teacher prof Zarina Rahman Khan.

Of them, Kabita Khanam, a retired district and sessions judge, was appointed by the president Abdul Hamid on Monday night.

Kabita Khanam hails from Naogaon. He was a judge for 31 years. She retired in 2013. Her husband, also a judge, died in 2011.
