A 26-year-old Bangladeshi fisherman was shot dead and another injured as Myanmar Border Guard Force opened fire on them while fishing in the Bay of Bengal near Teknaf Upazila at 8am on Monday.

The deceased is Nurul Amin, son of Kabir Ahmed and injured man is Mortaza, son of Sona Miah. They are both residents of Chowdhurypara of Teknaf municipality.

In this connection, Councilor Mujibur Rahman of the area said “A group of fishermen were fishing there when a group of Myanmar’s Border Guards came in on a speedboat and opened fire.”

Injured Nurul and Mortaza were rushed to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared Nurul dead. Later Mortaza was shifted to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital in a critical condition, he added.

Abdul Mazid, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, confirmed the matter to the Jagonews24.com.
