PM mourns death of Jahanara Zaman

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday expressed deep shock at the death of Jahanara Zaman, wife of national leader late AHM Qamaruzzaman.

In a condolence message, the premier prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.

Jahanara Zaman died of a heart attack at her Gulshan residence in the capital at 12.30 am today at the age of 84.

She left behind two sons and four daughters to mourn her death. Her son AHM Khairuzzaman Liton is a central committee member of Bangladesh Awami League and former mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation.

Jahanara Zaman’s husband AHM Qamaruzzaman, a close associate of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and a popular leader of Rajshahi, was killed along with three other national leaders - Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmed and Captain M Mansur Ali - by some disgruntled overambitious army officers inside Dhaka Central Jail on November 3 in 1975.
