7-murder convict arrested from Magura

Police arrested death row convict of the Narayanganj multiple murders Enamul Kabir from Vayna crossing area in the district town on Sunday.

Sergeant Enamul Kabir, former member of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), has been absconding when the court delivered the verdict, said Magura`s Superintendent of Police Tariqul Islam.

Enamul was posted at the Narayanganj-based RAB-11, when the 2014 gruesome murders of seven persons, including Councilor Nazrul Islam and senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarker, took place.

On a tip-off, police arrested him from the area at about 11.30 am as he was coming in the district town from his own village.

He was produced before the court after showing arrest accused in seven-murder case. Later, senior judicial magistrate Sampa Basu ordered to send him in jail.

On the afternoon of April 27, 2014, City Councilor Nazrul and five of his associates were abducted from their car on Dhaka-Narayanganj Link Road.

Around the same time and from the same location, senior lawyer Chandan and his chauffer, who were in another car, were kidnapped.

Three days later, their bloated bodies washed up on the banks of the Shitalakkhya River.

On January 16 this year, a Narayanganj court ordered death sentences for 26 persons, including former councilor Nur Hossain and three former senior officers of the local RAB unit.
