3-day Int`l conference begins at DU
A three-day International Conference on `Theory and Application of Statistics` began on Sunday at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban auditorium of Dhaka University (DU).
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the conference as chief guest, organised by DU Statistics Department Alumni Association (DUSDAA), said a release.
President of DUSDAA Prof Kazi Saleh Ahmed presided over the inaugural session. President of American Statistical Association, Prof Jessica Utts, and Dean of the College of Science of Oregon State University, USA, Prof. Sastry G Pantula, Chairman of Conference Convening Committee, Prof. M Ataharul Islam, also spoke.
DU VC called for upgrading the quality of statistics and statistical analysis.
"Quality statistics always ensures the transparency, accountability, justifiability, credibility and morality of good governance," he said.
We have to adopt all the updated methods and techniques for data preparation and economic analysis to formulate appropriate plan for development, he added.
Some 300 statisticians from home and abroad including the USA, the UK, Canada, India, Thailand, Australia and the Netherlands are participating in the conference, the release added.
