40 pc public servants in city to get housing facilities by 3 year

At least 40 per cent government officials and employees who are working in the capital would get housing facilities within next three years.

"Out of nearly 1.50 lakh government officers and employees residing in the capital, only eight percent have been enjoying residential facilities," said Housing and Public Works` Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain here today.

He said that the government, considering the acute housing problem, has been undertaking programs to construct more multi-storied buildings in the city to provide housing facility for at least 40 percent government officers and employees by 2019.

"Housing facilities for officials and employees should be ensured for bringing dynamism in government work," the minister made this remark while inaugurating the construction work of housing quarters for government officials and employees at three places in city`s Mirpur area.

During the time, the housing minister inaugurated the construction work of 20-storied 10 apartment buildings over 10 acres of land at the Wood Factory Compound of Public Workers` Directorate at Mirpur section 6, at a cost of Taka 853 crore. Each building would have 1,064 apartments.

In the same location, two 12-stoired and three 13-storied buildings having 288 apartments would be constructed over 2.5 acres of land at a cost of Taka 103 crore.

At Paikpara in Mirpur, ten 20-storied buildings having 608 apartments would be constructed over 4 acres of land at a cost of Taka 459 crore.

He said construction work of 20-stroied housing quarters at Azimpur and Motijeel are going on in full swing. Some 86 apartments constructed for justices, each 3,500 square feet, will be handed over by March this year.

The minister said the three multi-storied buildings having 114 apartments are being constructed for secretaries in the city. Accommodations for all secretaries would be there.
