Chief Justice opines for relocation of Dhaka Metro Court
Chief Justice S K Sinha today came up with an observation that the Dhaka Metropolitan Court should be relocated to the outskirts Keraniganj considering its convenience to Dhaka Central Jail, security concerns related to prison transportations and expansion of the court to dispose of more cases every day.
He made this observation before journalists while visiting the Dhaka Central Jail at Keraniganj this morning.
Chief Justice Sinha urged the jail authorities to deal prisoners in a manner so that they have the feeling of a `correction centre` and amend themselves accordingly to return to a normal life once their sentence is over. He also said nobody should be kept in jail without a trial as it violates basic human rights.
He also touched upon other issues of jail environment, including facilities for jail inmates.
Donating books worth Taka one lac from personal fund to the Jail Super, he wished, "Hope, these books would help prisoners to pass time and get new insights about issues in society."
Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka District Salahuddin Ahmed, Police Superintendant Shah Mizan Shafiur Rahman and Senior Jail Super of Dhaka Central Jail Jahangir Kabir, among others, accompanied the Chief Justice during his visit.
