A court on Sunday sentenced five years jail to Omar Faruq Talukder, assistant personal secretary (APS) to the then railway minister, in a case filed on charges of acquiring illegal assets, reports BSS.

Judge (in-charge) Ataur Rahman of Special Judge Court-4 passed the order and sent the accused in jail after cancelling his bail prayer.

The court also fined him Tk 1.23 crore and, in default, to suffer two and a half year in jail and ordered to confiscate his Mohammadpur residence.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case against Faruque on August 14, 2012 on charges of amassing illegal wealth of Tk 32 lakh.
