Number of militants negligible: Benazir

Director General (DG) of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Benazir Ahmed here today said that the number of bad people or militants was very few and negligible compared to the huge population of the country.

“The number of militants in Bangladesh is much less than 1,000, most of them were arrested, some of them were killed in encounters with police or RAB and the rest are now very much cornered under pressure,” he said.

Benazir Ahmed said this while distributing blankets among cold-hit poor and distressed people of different areas of the city at a ceremony arranged by Rangpur RAB-13 Battalion on Water Development Board ground here as the chief guest.

Additional DG of RAB Anwarul Latif, Additional Deputy Inspector Generals for Rangpur Range of Bangladesh Police Manjurul Kabir and Bashir Ahmed, Chief of the Media Wing of RAB Mufti Mahmud Khan, Commanding Officer of RAB-13 ATM Atikullah, attended the ceremony, among others.

The RAB Chief said that the elite force would continue conducting shadow investigation into the murder case of MP Manzurul Islam Liton side by side with police until the real killers were arrested.

Citing the tremendous developments being taking place in the country, Benazir Ahmed said that no `monga` exists in the northern region and no poor people would be available in near future to receive assistance like blankets.
