‘Technical education centre in every upazila’

LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Engineer Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Friday said technical education centre’s would be set up in all upazilas to develop skilled manpower in the country.

Currently, about five lakh people are going abroad from Bangladesh to work every year, he said speaking as the chief guest at a discussion meeting organized by the ministry for expatriates welfare and overseas employment in the city marking the International Migrants Day 2015.

Marking the International Migrants Day, Khandaker Mosharraf exchanged views with Bangladeshi migrant workers in Oman through video conferencing.

He listened to various problems of the expatriates and informed them about government programmes to resolve those.

The minister said about 96 lakh Bangladeshis are currently working in 160 countries and they are contributing to economic development by sending huge remittances.

Along with men, female workers are also going abroad for work, he said, adding that the government has taken all steps to enhance facilities and reduce sufferings of the expatriates.

Presided over by Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam BSc, the meeting was also addressed by State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam, Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, MP, International Labour Organization (ILO) Mission Chief Sharat Chandra Das, Secretary of Ministry of Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment M. Iftekhar Haider and Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training Director General Begum Shamsun Nahar.
