PM to open development fair tomorrow

A three-day "Development Fair-2017" begins tomorrow in all upazilas and district towns across the country aimed at bringing all people under the government uplift activities by informing the success stories to achieve Vision 2021 and Vision 2041 as well as Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

"Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the event through videoconferencing at 3 pm from her official Gonobhaban residence in the city," said Dr Dewan M Humayun Kabir.

The theme of the fair is "Democracy for Development is the Key Motto of Sheikh Hasina".

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages welcoming all associated with the fair and wishing it`s all out success.

In his message, President Abdul Hamid said the pragmatic initiatives taken by the present government under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of Bangabandhu, have been contributing significantly for attaining economic and human resources development as well as ensuring social safety.

Bangladesh, in the meantime, has attained most of the targets of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) successfully, he said.

"I am confident that our country will be able to achieve the targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030 which has been taken to eradicate extreme poverty along with attaining sustainable development too," he added.

He also believed that Bangladesh would transform into a prosperous and developed country before 2041.

The fair, he said, will highlight various development activities and its success stories before the countrymen taken by the present government.

In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the main objective of the fair is to display the ongoing development success and incorporate people with government`s development activities.

"Alongside, the fair will play an important role in promoting government`s future plans, achieving MDG targets and partnering people in implementing SDGs," she said.

The fair will also help identify local problems and formulate plans and their implementation ideas through mutual discussions among public representatives, political leaders, government officials and distinguished people, she added.

The premier said various government and non-government organisations, banks, insurance companies and other financial institutions will take part in the fair.

On this occasion, seminar, symposium, documentary film screening, display of photographs and posters, and holding cultural programmes would be arranged, she added.

The government has been working relentlessly to improve living standard of the people, she said, adding, "We have already graduated to lower middle-income country and our aim is to establish Bangladesh as a middle-income country by 2021 and a development and prosperous one by 2041."

"Let us engage ourselves and work together irrespective of party affiliation or opinion, and build a developed, prosperous, beautiful and habitable Bangladesh for our future generations," the premier said.
